If Dapper Drake did that when I installed it for the first time last year in an effort to learn linux, I might still be using it. I ended up buying a Mac and love it. I hope Leopard will approach do this workspace thing too. I have nothing against switching to Linux in the future though, but there are some sweet apps on the Mac that I wouldn't want to give up.

Re: Ubuntu/XGL Making OS X’s GUI Look Like Windows 95

no, getting more work done with 'cooler' effects.
Most are for show, but some actually do increase productivity.

using the system is also about user experience. And this rocks at it.

IMHO

Re: Ubuntu/XGL Making OS X’s GUI Look Like Windows 95

Um...so what? Just more distractions from doing more substantial things while you play with your interface.

Re: Ubuntu/XGL Making OS X’s GUI Look Like Windows 95

Wow, such a cool video and it did not even touch everything.

Two points to add:
1. Everything he/she did was with the mouse. I enjoy the speed and flexability I am afforded by being able to do almost everything (I think everythin but do not wish to speak in absolutes) from the keyboard. Including all the effects you just saw.

2. The animation effects you can set to happen when you maximize/minimize/unminimize/close a window. That normally gets a lot of attention. Yesterday in a meeting some one leans over while I am talking an goes, in a uncertain voice, "something on your screen did some flame thing and burned away"... ha. Once I showed him all the other things... he was utterly impressed, as you would imagine. Cool point, it was my COO. :-)

But all truth be told this package is not perfectly mature yet and I am looking for some better stuff over this year. It is however stable enough to run on my work laptop, but it KILLS my battery life. he he.

Re: Ubuntu/XGL Making OS X’s GUI Look Like Windows 95

Very cool ... but Windows 95?
