That is pretty lame. I will continue to rip any cd that I purchase to my iPod. If I purchase an album, I consider that to be my property to distribute freely among my various media players (cd player in the car, iPod, winamp, etc.). Imagine buying a copy in the store to listen to in the car, and then a separate copy for use on portable players. That would have to be one of the worst ideas ever.

That would have to be one of the worst ideas ever. Not if you're a copyright holder standing to make sack-loads of cash off of people buying multiple copies of a single product for use in various devices. It's a publisher's wet dream, besides making each individual pay for experiencing a book/song/movie (and don't think that ain't in the works, either).
