Perfect. Well put.
As for the killing of an disarmed attacker, I have two modes of thought; that he has been neutralized, and that next time he'll be smart to pick an old woman to assault. In that instance, he'll be rewarded for his effort. So would a line of education built on a succession of exceedingly worse criminal violence, providing dominance almost every time, until this environment is saturated with this mindset, not only of one lone would be killer, but of thousands, those educated in being the marauders, and those educated in being victims.
I like to say that a line must be drawn. I like to prove the line is where I walk.
That father will pay, in regret, for not having shown his dead son a better way.

This was a flash counterattack against armed attackers. He never regained control in a calm environment, from which point he decided to attack.
Big difference.
Later on, I had to amend the thought, that even if he had gained control, it would only be temporary.
However, we are becoming a nation based on these types of offenses, and it's becoming increasingly harder to defend ourselves. Imagine if the aggressor attacked with his knife, and the defender had a gun, and neutralized the aggressor, he is liable for the death of the aggressor. Such charges have been made in Britain, and we are increasingly looking towards that nation's policies becoming our own.

In addition to these code sections, any person exercising this defense is immune from both criminal AND civil liability.
I would think that committing a criminal act is essentially an exercise in risk management. Until the risk of committing a crime outweighs the benefits there isn't an actual reason for the criminals to stop. In the case above the attackers judged the risk incorrectly and ended up losing one of their lives. Hopefully the cohort will remember this next time he considers robbing another person.

Soon these events will cease. Only the criminals are allowed to have guns. It's for the "Shakes magic 8ball".... Mexicans.
