And if he actually shot himself (as he apparently did) then to act as if nothing serious happened is NOT something that deserves credit.  It WAS serious.  You're right that he did well not to freak out, but to pretend that gunshots in real life are a bit like gunshots in cartoons (ie: no serious consequences) is NOT an appropriate lesson.
