Actually, I am pretty sure it was only in Europe and America and in the last few hundred years that the majority of slaves were of African descent. In "biblical times" slaves were Jewish, Indians, and even just atheists.
It comes up in every thread about Christianity, but most Christians do not take the word of the (entire) bible to literal. The Christians (white or black or brown) who are against Same-sex marriage, don't do it because the bible tells them to. They do it because they believe it degrades the sanctity of their own religious marriages. That means it comes from themselves, not strictly their religion.
Also, this is only ever brought up as a defense for Obama, but isn't he a Christian? Someone should ask him if he thinks the bible is literal or not and watch him dodge the question.
Okay, I can think of one other thing: Marriage is a privilege/incentive, not a right which makes it different than the current laws against slavery. And nobody is suggesting homosexuals be slaves.
