Yes it is a cool iPOD and a crappy smartphone... that is a good way to look at it, and for that price point I believe (and could be wrong) that it puts the device in the personal market exclusively and that the demographics for who would spend that money would be fan boys and early twenties...

Oh, I know it'll sell -- no doubt. I'm still super excited about it and can't wait to get one on opening day.

My point is that with these latest developments they moved from "best device ever" to "new way of thinking of things". In short, they've only shown us what the future sort of looks like, but they didn't give it to us yet.

That's *next* version. 3G, GeoLocation, superior battery, and more storage.

About your price point. The 8 GB iPod nano sells for $249. (and SELLS) This is not as compact as a nano, but it's a MUCH nicer iPod than the nano so I'd expect that AS AN iPod, this would sell for more than $249. And, oh, it's got a phone and other goodies thrown in. You guys are looking at this thing as a smartphone that doesn't have all the bells and whistles you wish it had. It's actually a VERY NICE iPod with LOTS of bells and whistles. Is it PERFECT? No. Will it grow over time? Surely. Will it sell? Have no doubts.

I wouldn't go so far as to say its "confirmed" that the iPhone won't be able to run Flash content; I'm sure people will find ways.

Okay, but IMAP versus the push exchange peice that businesses currently use... the email is a joke.
But a great device for personal phones for youth and tech savvy. But at the price point it is not priced to its demographic. And I believe that is in Apple fashion. They consistently miss their opportunity to gain mass market share by pricing wrong. Think about this, if they would have priced there gear for the last ten years at less profit per unit they would have more market share and made more capitol over all. They have started to move that direction for the last two years but... they still have some ground to go.

I for one would like the phone for personal but will not spend that kind of money, just as i will not spend the money on the larger ipod's with screen. I would like one... but do not want one as much as I want to not spend that much money on a 'luxury'. I could spend it else where. That is a life style thing but it is also a demographic thing.

Hope my short time (no time to proof read) did not make the thought stream incoherent.

Sounds a bit like the Apple TV. A lot of potential but lacking what everyone imagines it to be...unless it can be hacked up like the Apple TV.
